David Wayne, Ph.D.

Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer

David Wayne leads AI strategy, governance, and implementation across the University of Miami and UHealth. With a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Colorado Boulder, David has held AI leadership roles at UKG, True Fit, and Lightcast. He holds multiple patents, speaks at global technology conferences, and specializes in building high-performing teams that drive data-driven innovation at scale.


Trevor Yuen

Executive Director, Data Science and Engineering

Trevor Yuen joined the University of Miami Health System in 2021 to lead data science and engineering initiatives. With a background in healthcare analytics and clinical research, he has previously held roles at Hackensack Meridian Health and other healthcare systems. Trevor holds a Master’s in Computer Science and dual Bachelor's degrees in Biological Sciences and Economics from the University of Chicago.


Timothy Smith, Ph.D., CISSP

Director, IT – Data Informatics: Governance & Security

Dr. Timothy Smith leads governance and security strategy for data informatics in support of digital research enablement at the University of Miami. Since 2019, he has collaborated closely with the CISO’s office to align information security practices. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Science and a CISSP credential, with deep expertise in data classification, ownership, and compliance frameworks.


Bahram Marami, Ph.D.

Manager, Data Science

Bahram Marami directs machine learning and AI development to improve patient outcomes and clinical operations at the University of Miami Health System. He brings over 15 years of healthcare innovation experience and has created diagnostic tools and image analysis platforms. Bahram holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Leadership from the University of Miami Herbert Business School.


Chuang Wang, Ph.D.

Senior Data Scientist

Dr. Chuang Wang joined UHealth IT in 2022, specializing in medical imaging, NLP, and deep learning. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brunel University London and has led AI initiatives at St. Jude, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the University of Pennsylvania. His projects have enhanced proton therapy, tumor prediction, and post-transplant outcome forecasting.


Mihai Barbuceanu, Ph.D.

Cognitive Computing Architect

Mihai Barbuceanu designs AI systems that solve real-world healthcare challenges and improve clinical workflows. With a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the Technical University of Bucharest, Mihai’s career spans AI research, startup development, and enterprise software engineering. He is passionate about cosmology, swimming, hiking, and building intelligent systems that deliver measurable impact.


Till Krenz, Ph.D.

Data Scientist

Dr. Till Krenz supports cancer data visualization and outreach for the SCAN360 platform at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. An expert in geographic data visualization and social network analysis, he earned a Ph.D. in Sociology and developed the R package egor. His prior research explored academic collaboration networks and innovation.


Maksims Kazijevs

Maksims “Max” Kazijevs joined the University of Miami in 2023 and supports predictive modeling for UHealth and academic initiatives. Originally from Latvia, he holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science (Data Science concentration) from Tennessee State University and has experience in healthcare-focused machine learning research.


Farshad Sadr

Junior Data Scientist

Farshad Sadr contributes to SCAN360 and supports the creation of dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for research teams. He previously worked as a statistical programmer on clinical trials and Medicaid cost studies. Farshad holds a Master of Science in Experimental Psychology and has conducted research on romantic relationships and health behavior.


Adam Kansara

AI Solutions Engineer

Adam Kansara joined the University of Miami in 2024 to develop automated and GenAI-powered solutions that streamline complex processes. He holds a Master’s in Business Intelligence and Analytics and brings experience in data-driven decision-making, business intelligence, and process optimization. Outside of work, Adam enjoys hiking and skiing.
